"Tea for breakfast" (2018)

The model is actually drinking tea, from a vintage cup and saucer belonging to my Great Grandmother, that came to me via my Mother. I have a special emotional attachment to material things belonging to my family or things belonging to specific times in history. This is why I often use vintage pieces as a point of inspiration in my work. I think because my Mother died so young and suddenly and because I have very little close family left, I attach to their belongings as a way of being able to live on with them intimately in ordinary daily life. And by way of photographing pieces that are special to me, I feel that I can eternalize them.
